District 7 is Mesa County, with Parachute from Garfield County. Mesa County was home of various Indian tribes for thousands of years. In 1879, the Ute Indian treaties were declared void after repeated attacks, and white settlers arrived in 1881. Grand Junction, the largest city in Mesa County, was founded in 1882, the same year the railroad arrived. The County was founded the next year. Oil extraction though shale is currently a major concern in the area, due to the locations required for drilling. Mesa County also boasts a large selection of vineyards, with the valley area having a large fruit and grape growing potential.
