District 4 is a collection of disparate counties, with Lake, Douglas, Park, and Teller County with the northern part of El Paso County. As such, the district is a mixture of various different situations. Leadville, in Lake County, was one the second largest city in the state due the massive mining operations. The area has, at various times in history, mined silver, gold, manganese, bismuth, and molybdenum. Currently, only a few mines are still operation, and Leadville is now more of a tourist town, except not commercialized like Breckenridge or Vail. Park County is a ranching area, located in a basin called South Park, where the show South Park likely derived itself from. However, there is no city of South Park. Teller County was formed after a brutal miner strike intervention by the El Paso Sheriff Department, and now is reliant on gambling and tourism after the mining tapered off. It is ironically a majority Republican county now. The parts of El Paso and Douglas County in this district are largely the space in between the Colorado Springs metro area and the Denver metro area. The two main towns are Castle Rock and Monument, which will likely become the linker cities that eventually connect the two areas into a massive metropolis along the Front Range.
