Fort Collins is split into two districts, with this district encompassing the west half of town. Fort Collins was built as a military outpost in 1864, and the fort was decommissioned in 1868 after a large influx of settlers made the fort redundant. This section of town is the original area that was settled, and encompasses most of the Colorado State University. CSU was founded in 1870 as the Agricultural College of Colorado, but admitted its first students in 1879 due to fundraising troubles and the subsequent transition from territory to state required reauthorization. CU is considered the better institution due to larger research funding and the presence of multiple Nobel Prize winners, but I'm sure CSU alumni would tend to disagree.
