District 1 is a district containing Denver, Cherry Hills, Sheridan, Glendale, and Englewood. This district is the center of state, due to Denver's status as capital and main metropolitan area. Denver's downtown has all three major stadiums located within a short distance of each other, complimenting the Lower Downtown District, LoDo. Denver was selected for the 2008 Democratic Convention, beating New York City for the honor. The district is solidly liberal/Democrat. The seat is currently represented by Diana DeGette and was previously held by Pat Schroeder. She held the seat for well over 20 years, and DeGette could easily repeat that time span. DeGette is currently Deputy Whip, and recieved a large amount of press for authoring the first bill of President Bush's tenure in office.
