District 59 lies near the border with New Mexico, and is home a large portion of the Ute Mountain Ute and Southern Ute tribe members. The economy is mainly supported through agriculture, mining, and tourism which including excellent whitewater rafting. Both tribes are relatively well off due to gaming revenue and natural gas royalties, and Mesa Verde National Park also helps boost tourism in the area.
