District 36 covers Buckley Air Force Base and east Aurora, which is an area that held most recent subdivision expansion. Aurora started 1870 with the Delaneys, whose round barn and Gully Homestead are still located within Aurora at 200 S. Chambers Rd. as historical sites. In 1891, a town was incorporated as Fletcher, and later changed in 1907 to Aurora. Aurora expanded after the establishment of the Fitzsimons Army Hospital, Lowry Field, and what is now Buckley Air Force Base in the year preceding and through World War II. Aurora then expanded southward and eastward as military companies located themselves in the area, bringing thousands of people to town. Aurora is now the third largest city, approximately half the size of the City of Denver. However, it does not have a large urban core, so it usually considered a suburb, except in the eyes of the government, which terms the Denver metropolitan area as Denver-Aurora-Boulder.
